Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Tushar Deshpande received a huge welcome from the massive crowd upon his arrival in Mumbai after winning IPL 2023. CSK clinched their fifth title by defeating the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in a thrilling final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, 30th May.

After winning the title with CSK in the 16th edition of the tournament, Deshpande headed back to his hometown in Mumbai where he was showered with massive love from the fans. The fans swarmed around his car and gave him a grand welcome following his title-winning campaign for CSK.

Notably, Tushar Deshpande had a bittersweet season in IPL 2023 where he ended up as the highest wicket-taker for CSK with 21 wickets from 16 matches, at an economy of 9.92. However, the 28-year-old didn’t have a great outing in the final against GT, where he conceded 56 runs off his overs and leaked 56 runs.

Even though Deshpande finished his campaign as the third-highest wicket-taker amongst pacers in IPL 2023, the 28-year-old made his place in an unceremonious tally as he conceded the most number of runs in a single season of IPL. He conceded 564 runs in 16 appearances in IPL 2023, surpassing Prasidh Krishna’s record of 551 runs in 2022.

CSK registered a thrilling victory against GT in the 2023 final

Talking about the final, batting first at the Narendra Modi Stadium, GT posted a total of 214 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, powered by Sai Sudharsan’s career-best knock of 96 runs off 47 balls with eight fours and six sixes. For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana took 2 wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar shared a wicket each.

Chasing the winning total, Devon Conway was the highest scorer for CSK, as he got out after scoring 47 runs off 25 balls. While handy knocks by Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayadu helped CSK get closer to the target, which was reduced to 171 runs in  15 overs due to rain. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja hit four and a six when 10 runs were needed off the last two balls as CSK registered a thrilling victory to equal Mumbai Indians’ record of most IPL titles.
