West Indies defeated India by four runs in the first T20I and took a lead of 1-0 in the five-match series. Earlier, West Indies skipper Powell won the toss and invited visitors to field first and posted 149 runs in 20 overs.

Notably, the team did not have a great start as their openers, Kyle Mayers and Charles, departed after scoring only 1 and 3 runs, respectively. Following that, King and Pooran struck a great partnership and scored 28 and 41, respectively. Later, skipper Powell also struck 48 runs from just 32 balls, featuring three boundaries and three sixes, to post a respectable total against the Men in Blue.

Later, while chasing, the visitors also had a terrible start, losing their openers very early. Notably, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill departed after scoring 6 and 3 runs, respectively. Following that, Suryakumar Yadav tried to hit big shots to carry the momentum but he was also dismissed after scoring 21 runs. Debutant Tilak Varma was looking in great form as the Mumbai Indians batter hammered 39 runs from 22 balls, featuring two boundaries and three sixes.

Moreover, the great all-rounder Pandya also struck 19 runs, while Sanju Samson hammered 12 runs. Later Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh tried to reach the total but got out, and the Hardik Pandya-led side suffered a loss against West Indies in the first T20I as they could only rack up 145 runs.

Good four games ahead: Pandya

Meanwhile, India captain Hardik Pandya expressed disappointment after losing the first match. In addition, the 29-year-old cricketer said that they had made some errors that cost them the match. Moreover, the great all-rounder added that they look forward to the rest of the four games.

“We were right to chase. We made some errors which cost us the game. A young team will make mistakes. We will learn. Good four games ahead. In T20 cricket, if you lose wickets, it becomes difficult to chase. A couple of hits can change the momentum. When we lost a couple of wickets, that halted us,” Pandya said during a post-match presentation.
