Virat Kohli and KL Rahul fashioned India to an easy win at the end after India found itself in early trouble against Australia in their ODI World Cup 2023 clash. The Indian team opened their tournament with a fine win over Australia. The Men in Blue weathered the early storm as Kohli and Rahul helped India win the game by 6 wickets.

The Australian team, meanwhile, would rue the dropped chance by Mitchell Marsh to give Kohli 2nd chance. None of the Australian bowlers had any idea as the Indian pair of Kohli and Rahul added 165 runs for the fourth wicket.

Pat Cummins took to the field in Chennai as he won the toss and batted first. It was the 13th game between the two teams in ODI World Cups with India winning four games. Team India bowled well as they dismissed Australia for 199 in the first game of the ODI World Cup 2023.

KL Rahul and Virat Kohli’s match-winning stand takes India home –

Mitchell Marsh was out for zero caught by Virat Kohli in the first slip off Bumrah in the 3rd over. David Warner and Steve Smith came together to stage a key 69-run stand in under 15 overs. Kuldeep Yadav ended that stand when he dismissed Warner for 41 thanks to a return catch.

Steve Smith was out next when he was cast by Ravindra Jadeja. The wicket of Smith saw the Australians suffer a mini-collapse. Marnus Labuschagne was caught behind for 27 off Jadeja while Alex Carey fell for a duck. Jadeja had scalped three wickets to give India the upper hand.

The Indian team saw Ashwin get the key wicket of Green when he offered a simple catch to Hardik Pandya. Mitchell Starc with 28 tried to power Australia past 200 but fell short by 1 run.

Ishan Kishan was out for first ball duck to Starc while Hazlewood got the wicket of Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer. The three batters fell for ducks as India was down in the dumps at 2/3. Kohli then scored 85 runs with the bat as he sailed through the tough phase with KL Rahul. The Indian wicket-keeper played the perfect ally to help India win the contest as he scored 97 not out.
