Gujarat Titans are hosting Delhi Capitals for the 44th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Having lost six of their first eight games, the Capitals were in dire need to win this match. However, they were not prepared for what happened at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

After winning the toss, David Warner chose to bat first, which appeared strange on this track. Mohammed Shami’s fantastic spell got the Titans off to a flying start with the ball. The pacer bowled his entire quota of four overs in his first spell itself.

He was on fire and got the ball rolling on the first ball of the innings with the wicket of Philip Salt. Shami maintained his assault with the ball following David Warner’s unfortunate run-out in the second over. He dismissed Rille Rossow with an outstanding delivery in the 3rd over, and his movement also produced the wickets of Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg in the 5th over.

Captain Hardik Pandya also gave him the ball to bowl the 7th over, but he went wicketless, albeit only allowing 4 runs. He finished with the figures 4-0-11-4. Delhi only managed 32 runs at the end of his spell, with half of their team back in the dugout.

The defending champions have been riding high on confidence this season with some brilliant performances under their belt. GT currently stand at the top of the points table, having won six of their eight games. Shami, meanwhile, has 17 wickets in nine games this season. He presently holds the Purple Cap as the season’s highest wicket-taker.

The fans were left in awe of the star Indian pacer for his excellent spell. Many even suggested that the record for the lowest total in the Indian Premier League history might be in trouble. “49 Sankat me hai,” wrote a fan on Twitter.
