IPL 2023: Five frontrunners to win Orange Cap in this season after Week 2
Indian Premier League 2023 has already witnessed some of the most outstanding individual batting performances in the season so far. However, there are still only two centurions in the league so far, Harry Brook and Venkatesh Iyer, but the latter’s hundred came in the losing cause.
After the first week, the orange cap list saw a drastic change as some new entries could be seen there. On that note,
we will take a look at 5 frontrunners to win the orange cap after Week 2 in IPL 2023.
5. Venkatesh Iyer
The stylish left-hander Venkatesh Iyer broke the 15-year century drought of KKR against Mumbai Indians in the second week. The first century for KKR was hit by Brendon McCullum in 2008. After that breathtaking 49-ball century, Iyer is now sitting on the second spot of the Orange cap list with 234 runs in 5 matches at a brilliant average of 46.8 and with an outstanding strike rate of 170.8.
4. Faf du Plessis
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis is in red-hot form these days. Opening with Virat Kohli, he has provided many great starts to the team. Recently, he played a magnificent knock of 62 runs off just 33 balls which included 5 fours and 4 sixes. After a week, he became the table-topper in the orange cap holders list with 259 runs in 5 matches.
3. Shubman Gill
India’s young sensation Shubman Gill continued his brilliant form in the 16th edition of IPL as well. Gill has played 5 matches and scored 228 runs in the league so far and currently sitting on the 4th spot. However, questions were raised on him about his low strike rate after the powerplay. But it is believed that he will work on it in the upcoming matches.
2. Shikhar Dhawan
Indian veteran left-handed batter Shikhar Dhawan is leading Punjab Kings, however, the leadership pressure couldn’t stop him to score runs for himself and the team. Dhawan remained consistent in both the first and second week of IPL 2023 and is on the 3rd spot of the orange cap list with 233 runs in just 4 matches.
1. Jos Buttler
England’s limited-over captain Jos Buttler is one of the most consistent run scorers in the cash-rich history. Buttler continued his brilliance and has scored 204 runs in 5 matches in the league so far. However, he couldn’t provide anything special in the second week but we all know he has the ability to play a big knock anytime.
