The great news for Team India has arrived as the Indian Cricket Board has announced the 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup that is slated to take place from August 30 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Notably, the Rohit Sharma-led side will lock horns against the Men in Green on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka, to commence their journey.
Meanwhile, the squad has marked the comebacks of star batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, while Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah also make their way to strengthen the pace attack. Speaking on the same subject, check out the five Indian players to watch out for in the upcoming Asia Cup.
Virat Kohli
Every eye will be on India’s star batter, Virat Kohli. Notably, the stylish right-handed batter enjoys a great record in the Asia Cup, especially against Pakistan. Moreover, the former India skipper will again be looking to score significant runs to help India win the Asia Cup. In addition, the RCB batter has played 275 ODIs while amassing 12898 runs, including 183 runs as his best score, which came during the Asia Cup 2012 against Pakistan.
Jasprit Bumrah
India star pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion will be a major boost for Rohit Sharma’s side. Notably, after sustaining the back injury in September 2022, the great seamer missed the Asia Cup 2022, the T20 World Cup 2022, and the World Test Championship Final 2023. This was the biggest blow for the Men in Blue.
Ravindra Jadeja
India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been in magnificent form since the start of the year, as the star batter earned the Player of the Series award in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. Notably, the southpaw has guided the MS Dhoni-led CSK towards victory in the IPL 2023, and following that, the left-handed batter did terrific batting in the WTC Final. In addition, the 34-year-old cricketer will be one of the key spinners for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Kuldeep Yadav
Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav will also be a key player to watch out for during the Asia Cup. Notably, the left-arm spinner looked in terrific form during the West Indies tour, which marked his way into the Asia Cup. In addition, the 28-year-old cricketer has played in 81 ODIs while scalping 134 wickets, with a best outing of 6/25.
Shreyas Iyer
Great middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has made a comeback in the Asia Cup. Notably, this was the greatest news for Indian fans, as the team was struggling to find a suitable batter in the middle order. In addition, the right-handed batter has played in 32 ODIs while amassing 1593 runs, with a top score of unbeaten 113 runs.
