‘Absolute Legend and Superstar’ – Fans react as Stuart Broad announces retirement from international cricket

English star pacer Stuart Broad surprisingly announced his retirement during the ongoing fifth Ashes Test 2023 at the Oval in London. From the moment the great seamer disclosed his retirement, accolades started pouring on social media as one of the most talented pacers went to retire after a remarkable playing career.

Notably, his teammate James Anderson is the only pacer who has captured more wickets than Board. The right-arm pacer made his debut on December 9, 2007, against Sri Lanka, and has played around 165 Test matches for his side while scalping 600 wickets so far. His best bowling figure is 8/15.

The legendary bowler has equally contributed with his bat. The 37-year-old cricketer has scored 3640 runs, with his best score of 169. The left-handed batter has one century and 13 fifties to his credit. The star bowler had also appeared in 121 ODIs and had scalped 178 wickets, whereas he had 65 wickets to his name from 56 T20I matches.

I have always wanted to finish on the top: Board

Stuart Board describes his journey as a wonderful ride while affirming that it was a huge privilege to represent the English team, and he further went on to say that the ongoing Ashes series is the most enjoyable and entertaining part of his career.

“Tomorrow or Monday will be my last game of cricket. It has been a wonderful ride. A huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and the England batch as much as I have. I am loving cricket as much as I ever had, it has been such a wonderful series to be a part of and I have always wanted to finish on the top. This series feels like one of the most enjoyable entertainments I’ve been a part of,” Board said on Sky Sports.

“Stuart Broad has announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing an end to an illustrious 17-year international career,” English and Wales Cricket put out the statement.
