‘Acha drama kiya itne din’ – Fans react as Pakistan confirm their participation for ODI World Cup 2023

The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan has confirmed the Men in Green’s participation in India for the 50-over World Cup. Notably, the ministry was reluctant to send their team to India as the host country had earlier rejected their request to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. Moreover, this will be the first time the Pakistan team will travel to India after the 2016 T20I World Cup.

We expect the full safety and security of the Pakistan cricket team: Reports

The press release from their foreign ministry states that the geopolitical tensions between these two countries should not mix with sports. It further added that their government still has deep security concerns, which they have already shared with the Indian Cricket Board as well as the Apex Cricket Council. However, they expect full security as well as full safety when their team travels to India for the upcoming World Cup.

“Pakistan believes that the state of bilateral relations with India should not stand in the way of fulfilling its international sports-related obligations. Pakistan, however, has deep concerns about the security of its cricket team. We are conveying these concerns to the International Cricket Council and the Indian authorities. We expect that the full safety and security of the Pakistan cricket team will be ensured during its visit to India,” the release said, as quoted by Times of India.

Notably, the Men in Green are all set to face the Netherlands in Hyderabad to kick off their 50-over World Cup campaign on October 6. In addition, on October 8, they will be taking Sri Lanka to the same venue. Furthermore, the Babar Azam-led side will be facing their arch-rivals, India, on October 15 in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. However, since the clash would have coincided with the beginning of the Navratri festival, we may see this match on October 14.

Meanwhile, these obligations begin when former PCB chief Ramiz Raja states that their team will not travel to India as the latter has rejected travelling to their country for the Asia Cup.
