The Men in Blue will lock horns against Australia on September 22 during the first ODI of the three-match series at Mohali. Recently, the squad has seen the surprise inclusion of a few players as well as notable omissions. This series will be the last and final preparation for Rohit Sharma and Co. heading to the ODI World Cup 2023, which is set to commence on October 5. Team India will be facing the Pat Cummins-led side on October 8 to commence their World Cup journey.

Meanwhile, India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, has spoken about the absence and inclusion of the players ahead of the series. The former India skipper says that one will witness totally different play in the series. However, the former India cricketer has revealed that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are being rested for the first two ODIs to get physically and mentally fit ahead of the first game of the ODI World Cup 2023.

“It is one of those series, where you have seen that some of our boys are not playing the first two games. We will rotate our pacers a bit. I think with people like Rohit and Virat, from our perspective, it is important that they reach the first game of the World Cup with the physical and mental headspace they want to be in,”  Rahul Dravid said in a pre-match press conference.

Moreover, the batting legend opens up about the decisions he took with India’s star cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after the Asia Cup 2023. In addition, the 50-year-old coach admitted that the decision to rest them was a mutual decision.

“With the amount of cricket they have played, they know how to prepare themselves for these big games. A lot of these decisions are discussed with them. We discuss with them how they would like to prepare leading up to big events. Based on these discussions, we come up with these mutual decisions,” he added further.
