Team India Women beat Sri Lanka Women by 19 runs to win the Asian Games 2023 Final on September 25 in Hangzhou, China. Notably, regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was back in the game after suffering a two-match ban at the Asian Games. The Women in Blue earlier got direct entry into the quarterfinal match owing to their ranks.

Following that, Team India made their way into the semifinal match after rain halted the play in the quarterfinal clash against Malaysia. The Women in Blue yet again defeated Bangladesh in the semifinal match, which allowed them to reach the finals. Notably, the Sri Lankan team defeated Pakistan women to lock horns against India ahead of the final match.

Speaking about the match, it was Harmanpreet Kaur who won the toss and invited the Sri Lanka women’s team to field first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, Team India had a great start. Star opener Smriti Mandhana scored 46 runs from 45 balls, featuring four boundaries and a six to give her side a flying start. On the other hand, Shafali Verma cheaply departed with nine runs.

Following her, India’s middle-order batter, Jemimah Rodrigues, once again lit up the show with her performance during the final game. The great batter hammered 42 runs from 40 balls to post a decent total against Sri Lanka. Notably, following her dismissal, no other batter could score runs even in the double digits, which allowed them to post 116/7 in the given 20 overs.

Later, while chasing, the Sri Lanka team had a terrible start, which helped India boost their chances of winning. Notably, their openers, Atapattu and Sanjeewani, scored 12 and 1 run, respectively. Their middle-order batters performed magnificently to reach near the total. However, the Women in Blue held their nerves to win the Asian Games 2023. Meanwhile, Team India also won the silver medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham after a narrow loss over Australia.
