The last month or so haven’t been the best for Pakistan cricket. Despite being the World Number One side, they haven’t looked like it. After cleanly sweeping Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series in late August this year, things have gone downhill. After the clean sweep, the Green Brigade became the number one ODI side for the second time after April this year.
The Shaheens had a good start to the Asia Cup, winning two games and one washout, including one win against Bangladesh in the Super Four. However, a dreadful 228-run loss against arch-rivals, India and a last-ball loss to Sri Lanka ended their finals hopes. Before the tournament, they were expected to play the final alongside India. The Men In Blue, on the other hand, went on to win the tournament.
Apart from this, Pakistan’s second-string side went to China for the Asian Games 2023 cricket competition. Just like their women counterparts, they reached the semis. However, the Men’s team struggled badly and if not for Aamir Jamal, they would lost even against Hong Kong. Meanwhile, in a low-scoring semis against Afghanistan, the Green Brigade lost and their finals hopes ended once again.
Pakistan has returned empty-handed from the Asian Games 2023
Meanwhile, in the Bronze Medal game, Bangladesh (who lost to India in the semis badly) took on their Asian neighbor, Pakistan. In what was a rain-impacted game, it was a five-over game. Batting first, the Shaheens managed only 48/1 at the end of their innings. In reply, the Tigers needed to chase down 65 runs due to the Duckworth Lewis Stern Method (DLS). Despite Arshad Iqbal’s three-wicket haul, the team managed to chase down the runs and win the Bronze Medal.
