‘Inko halke me lene ki galti sab ko bhaari padegi’ – Fans react as England beat Bangladesh by 137 runs in ODI World Cup 2023
In the 7th match of the ODI World Cup 2023, defending champions England beat Bangladesh by 137 runs. After a magnificent century by Dawid Malan, English pacer Reece Topley’s four-wicket haul helped the English team dominate the game. After getting a disappointing start against New Zealand, Jos Buttler and his team are back on track.
Earlier, in the game, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bowl first. His decision didn’t go well with the team, as both Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow added 115 runs for the first wicket. Bairstow, in his innings, scored 52 runs off 59 balls with the help of eight boundaries. After his departure, Joe Root joined Malan in the middle and continued milking runs.
Root and Malan sparked a 151-run partnership for the second wicket and outplayed the Bangladeshi bowlers. Root, in his innings, scored 82 runs off 68 balls with the help of eight fours and a six. Meanwhile, Malan scored a magnificent century as he hammered 140 runs off just 107 balls with the help of 16 fours and five sixes. However, for Bangladesh, Mehndi Hasan Miraz took four wickets and stopped England at 364/9 in 50 overs.
Reece Topley made a blistering comeback in ODIs
After missing the first game against New Zealand Reece Topley made a blistering debut in the ODI World Cup. He dismantled the Bangladeshi run chase by taking three wickets in the powerplay. Topley was dismissed by Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan. He was well supported by Chris Woakes, who dismissed Mehndi Hasan Miraz.
However, despite a half-century of fighting, Litton Das Bangladesh fell 137 runs short of the target and lost the game. Das, in his inning, scored 76 runs off 66 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes. For England, Topley clinched four wickets, while Woakes got two. Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Liam Livingston, and Mark Wood also got a wicket each. With this victory, England improved their negative net run rate to positive.
