ODI World Cup 2023
‘Kohli ne Karli ab Sharma ki baari’ – Fans react to Virat Kohli bowling versus Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023
The Indian team is playing their fourth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The opponents for the men in blue are Bangladesh. The game is being played in Pune which is hosting its first World Cup game. The fans in Pune went up in rapture as they saw Virat Kohli bowl for the first time in six years.
Team India came into the game on the back of three successive wins in the tournament. Rohit Sharma and his team began by beating Australia before winning against Afghanistan and Pakistan. Bangladesh on the other hand had lost to England and New Zealand and won their only game versus Afghanistan.
Shakib Al Hasan missed the game as Najmul Hossain Shanto came out for the toss. Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first with Hasan Mahmud being the replacement player. India went in with the same team that had played the first three games of the ODI World Cup 2023.
Virat Kohli dons the bowling hat to replace Hardik Pandya –
The 3rd ball of the 9th over saw Hardik Pandya injure himself while bowling. The 30-year-old struck out his foot while trying to stop a straight drive from Litton Das which went for four. In the process of trying to stop the ball, Hardik Pandya lost his footing and fell.
This prompted a stoppage in play as the Indian medical team came out to check. Hardik Pandya’s leg was bandaged as he stood up once again to try and bowl. It was a futile attempt as Hardik Pandya couldn’t even walk properly and made his way off the field.
Rohit Sharma then threw the ball to Virat Kohli and this got a huge cheer from the fans in Pune. The former India skipper last bowled in 2017 and this was a rare sight. Virat Kohli was tight with his line and length as he gave just 2 runs from the 3 balls he bowled.
Speaking about Hardik Pandya the Indian Cricket Board has put out a statement. The 30-year-old has been taken to the hospital for scans. It isn’t clear if Hardik Pandya will come out to bat. But this latest injury setback will leave the Indian team and its fans fretting with more crucial games of ODI World Cup 2023 lined up.
