ODI World Cup 2023
‘Ham bhi tayar hai T20 ka badla lene ke liye’ – Fans react as Sri Lanka beat England by 8 wickets in ODI World Cup 2023
The Sri Lanka cricket team registered their second win in the ODI World Cup 2023 as they defeated defending champions England on October 26 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. Notably, the Jos Buttler-led England side could only get one win out of the five games they have played so far in the tournament, which places them at the bottom of the points table.
Speaking about the game, it was the English skipper who won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to the field first. Notably, after being elected to bat first, the defending champions were only able to pile up 156 runs before getting an all-out. Star opening batsmen Jonny Bairstow and David Malan pile up 30 and 28 runs, respectively. Following them, Test skipper Ben Stokes could get 43 runs, which helped them get 156 runs on the board.
Meanwhile, during the chase, Sri Lanka star batsman Kusal Perera and skipper Kusal Mendis were out early in the game. However, Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama struck out wonderful half-centuries that guided them to win their back-to-back second game in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Playing a team like England, I’m very happy to perform this way today: Lahiru Kumara
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka star cricketer Lahiru Kumara, who picked up a 3-wicket haul against tough England, gets the Player of the Match award. The 26-year-old cricketer was ecstatic after delivering magnificent performances for his side. In addition, the right-arm pacer has revealed his tactical and pragmatic plans that helped him win his game against Jos Buttler and Co.
“Playing a team like England, I’m very happy to perform this way today. Didn’t make a lot of changes after the previous match, the Australia game was an off day for me. I’ve worked hard on my bowling. (On his role in the team) The plan was to attack the middle overs with disciplined bowling, and we were rewarded with a wicket,” Lahiru Kumara said.
