Bangladesh vs India 2022
‘It was not easy for him’- Rahul Dravid opens up on how Virat Kohli overcame his poor form in International cricket
India’s run-machine, Virat Kohli endured a poor patch in international cricket for a significant period of time. He couldn’t score a single century for close to three years.
However, Kohli made sure he kept training hard and keep giving his 100 percent on the field and during the practice sessions. He took a long break to rejuvenate and made a comeback in the Asia Cup 2022.
The former Indian skipper returned to form in style as he broke the century drought with a ton against Afghanistan. It was also his maiden ton in the shortest format.
Kohli continued his fine run at the 20-20 World Cup 2022, where he finished as the highest run-scorer. In 6 matches, Kohli scored 296 runs at an average of close to 100.
In the recently concluded ODI series against Bangladesh, Kohli ended his century drought in the ODI format. He produced his 44th century in the third ODI of the series and went past Ricky Ponting in the list of most centuries in international cricket.
Amidst that, India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid heaped massive praise for Kohli and sheds light on how the former Indian skipper kept himself motivated despite enduring poor form with the bat for a significant period in international cricket.
“It was not easy for him since the standards that he has set for himself. It has been fantastic to watch Virat Kohli train and prepare over the last one and a half years,” Dravid instructed official broadcaster SonyLiv in an interview.
“As coaches, it is our job to look beyond those numbers and see that he had batted really well in that period of time,” the India head coach added.
India are currently playing the first Test against Bangladesh in Chottagram. Kohli got out cheaply for just 1 run in India’s first innings. However, the team are currently in dominating position in the Test match.
KL Rahul and Co. have a lead of 317 runs on day 3.
