Australia defeated Bangladesh in their last group stage match of the ODI World Cup 2023. In MCA stadium in Pune, Australia totally dominated Bangladesh in all the departments of the game. A collective team effort helped Australia to overcome the challenge of Bangladesh to register their 7th consecutive win of the tournament. The loss has put Bangladesh’s chances of qualifying for the Champions Trophy 2025 at stake.

After opting to bowl first, Australia could not have as great start with the ball. In the Powerplay overs, Bangladesh scored well. After the first 11.2 overs, Bangladesh scored 76 runs and lost just a wicket. The opening pair batted well. In the middle overs, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy batted well. Against the Australian attack, the duo anchored the innings well. Hridoy batted well against Australia.

In 79 balls. Hridoy scored 74 runs, which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Shanto scored 45 runs in 57 balls, which included 6 fours. Mahmudullah scored 32 runs in 28 balls. Marnus Labuschagne was brilliant in the field and produced some stunning efforts to restrict Bangladesh to a low score. Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood were brilliant with the ball. The senior bowlers were economical and helped Australia to restrict Bangladesh to 306 runs.

Mitchell Marsh played blinder in the run chase 

Chasing 307, Australia lost the wicket of Travis Head early. For the second wicket, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh added 120 runs. Marsh was indeed the aggressor of the two, who played the innings of his life. While Warner got a fifty for himself, Marsh continued and played a marathon knock. Steve Smith joined Marsh and anchored the chase well. At the other end, Marsh batted aggressively and took on the bowlers of Bangladesh.

Marsh played a blinder and totally took the game away from Bangladesh. In his stay in the middle, the Australian number 3 scored an unbeaten 177*(132), which included 17 fours and 9 massive sixes. At the other end, Smith scored an unbeaten 63*(64), which included 4 fours and a six. The two batters helped Australia to chase down the target in just 44.4 overs and with 32 balls to spare.
