Penguins Star struggle to make impact in National Hockey League

At the start of the season, Evgeni Malkin showcased impressive form for the Pittsburgh Penguins, amassing 13 points in the initial ten games, notably excelling with a four-point display against the Washington Capitals. However, in recent weeks, Malkin has encountered difficulties in making significant contributions on the scoresheet.

Scoring his first point in six games with a goal against the Nashville Predators, excluding an empty net goal versus Vegas, Evgeni Malkin’s challenges persisted in the recent matchup. His forward line was the only one to conclude with less than 50% of shot attempts at 5v5, and they yielded six scoring chances while creating only three. Malkin individually contributed three giveaways, putting him on track to surpass 100 giveaways for the second consecutive season.

Malkin acknowledges that he has additional contributions to offer to the Penguins, expressing this sentiment in a recent conversation with Rob Rossi of The Athletic.

“I can do more, you know? We need better from me.”

Evgeni Malkin will certainly be future Hall of Famer

Malkin’s challenges are not isolated. His linemate, Reilly Smith, is also experiencing a scoring drought, registering only two points (0 goals, 2 assists) in the last 11 games. Despite initially finding chemistry and success early in the season, Malkin and Smith faced difficulties, particularly as Rickard Rakell struggled to contribute on their line during the opening month.

Now elevated to the line in place of the injured Rakell, Drew O’Connor provides Malkin and Smith with additional space on the ice, thanks to his speed and proficiency in generating turnovers in the offensive zone. These turnovers are expected to translate into increased scoring opportunities for two of the Penguins’ leading scorers this season.

As a prospective Hall of Famer, Evgeni Malkin plays a crucial role in the Penguins’ immediate objectives. A lot of success of team generally depends on his form and how his manages going ahead in the tournament. To ascend in the standings, the team relies on Malkin to overcome his current struggles.
