‘He is very smart and intelligent’- Danish Kaneria names his pick as India’s future Test captain

Former Pakistan leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria feels that Ravichandran Ashwin can be a great choice to lead India in Test Cricket in the coming future. Kaneria said that Ashwin still has a lot of cricket left in him and labeled him as an intelligent cricketer.

“Ravichandran Ashwin should be one of the candidates for India’s Test captaincy. He still has a lot of cricket left in him. He is very smart and intelligent with his batting and bowling. It seems as if he is constantly thinking when he is on the ground,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

Ravichandran Ashwin helped India win the second Test against Bangladesh on Sunday by 3 wickets. In pursuit of a 145-run target, Ashwin came to the crease when his team were in all sorts of trouble at 74 for 7.

He provided great support to Shreyas Iyer and the duo helped the team produce a stunning fightback. They played both spin and pace to the utmost perfection and stitched an unbeaten 71-run partnership to guide India home with 3 wickets in hand.

Ashwin played an unbeaten knock of 42 runs in 62 balls. He also picked as many as 6 wickets in that game and earned the ‘Player of the Match’ award as well. Kaneria hailed Ravi Ashwin’s knock under pressure and drew his comparisons with veteran spinner Anil Kumble.

“India were under a lot of pressure. Ravichandran Ashwin was cool and calm in that situation, playing a great knock to steady the ship for his team. He has saved India on several occasions with his batting contributions.

“The Indian team looked weak when they played without Anil Kumble in the past, and the same goes for Ashwin. His 42-run knock was equal to scoring a century,” he added.

India’s next Test assignment will be a four-match Test series against Australia. The series will begin on 9th February and conclude on 13th March 2022.
