‘Bhai isay captaincy nhi aati’ – Fans lash out at Pakistan as they fail to take single wicket on Day 2

The ongoing Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi is poising up to be an intriguing one after two days of play. Day 2 began with the home team having their noses in front, with skipper Babar Azam scoring a hundred on the previous day and their veteran wicketkeeper-batter scoring a gritty 86.

Babar fell early on the day, and at the stroke of drinks in the first session, the home side were on 348 for the loss of 6 wickets with Agha Salman and Nauman Ali on the crease. And it was all on Salman to take Pakistan to a huge total.

Salman was the pick of the batters of the day as he went on to score a spectacular knock of 103 runs off 155 balls with 17 fours. This took the Babar-led side past the 400-mark, before eventually getting bowled out for 438 in 130.5 overs. The pick of the bowlers in the Kiwi attack was their skipper, Tim Southee, who picked up 3 wickets for 69 runs in 25.5 overs, including the big scalps of Babar and Salman.

New Zealand finish Day 2 on high

Spinners Ajaz Patel, Michael Bracewell and Ish Sodhi also shared the exploits, bagging two wickets each, and left-arm quick Neil Wagner got one scalp. The visitors, going into the second innings, needed a dream start to nullify the runs amassed by the Pakistanis over the two days. And the openers, Tom Latham and Devon Conway delivered just what the doctor ordered.

Latham finished the day unbeaten with an exhilarating 78 runs off 126 balls with eight fours. And his opening partner also stayed unbeaten on 82 runs off 156 balls with 12 fours. It was a hard grind for Pakistan with the ball towards the end of Day 2. There were five bowlers used by the home team, including part-timer Babar. And none of them seemed to trouble the Kiwi opening pair. New Zealand finished the day with 165 runs on board for no loss in 47 overs. And it seems all even between the two teams, heading into the third day.
