‘Harman is different beast in league’ – Fans react as Mumbai Indians Women beat Gujarat Giants in 3rd game of WPL 2024 by 4 wickets

In the third match of the Women’s Premier League 2024, Harmanpreet Kaur led the Mumbai Indians to beat the Gujarat Giants by four wickets. In a low-scoring game at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, MI, they continued their sheer dominance over the Gujarat Giants.

After the Mumbai Indians women won the toss and opted to bowl first, the Gujarat Giants struggled to capitalise on the opportunity. They faced a magnificent challenge to put up a notable batting performance against the defending champions. Gujarat only managed to post a below-par total of 126-9 in 20 overs.

Captain Beth Mooney contributed a steady 24 runs, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Notably, the batting line-up faced significant pressure, with several players failing to make substantial contributions. Tanuja Kanwar was the top scorer for the Gujarat Giants, posting 28 runs with a strike rate of 133.33. However, the overall lack of partnerships and frequent dismissals hindered their ability to set a competitive total.

The Mumbai Indians women’s bowling attack, led by Shabnim Ismail, proved effective in restricting the Gujarat Giants. Ismail claimed three crucial wickets, finishing with figures of 3 for 22. Meanwhile, Amelia Kerr took four wickets by giving just 17 runs in four overs.

Harmanpreet Kaur guides MI to a comfortable victory

After a poor batting performance, the Gujarat team faced an uphill task defending their modest total. However, Mumbai got off to a poor start as they lost both of their openers for a mere 21 runs. Yastika Bhatiya and Healy Matthews scored just seven runs each.

After their departure, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Kerr stabilised the innings. They added 66 runs for the fourth wicket. Kerr, in her innings, scored 31 runs off 25 balls with the help of three boundaries.

In the end, Kaur scored an unbeaten 46 runs off 41 balls and led her team to a comfortable victory. With this win, MI clinched the top position at the points table as they have won two out of two games. Now, on Monday, UP Warriorz will face Delhi Capitals women in a much-needed clash.
