Anthony Martial suffers hamstring injury, gets ruled out of FA Cup final against Manchester City
Manchester United have got a big blow ahead of the FA Cup final as their forward Anthony Martial has been ruled out of the title clash against Manchester City that is scheduled to take place on Saturday. The French Footballer has played as United’s starting striker in recent weeks, taking the place of Wout Weghorst in the Red Devils’ squad.
Martial was rested against Fulham last week in the last game before ManU take on the City in the final at Wembley. However, he came off the bench in the final 23 minutes of the play against Fulham. United registered a 2-1 victory with Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes being the goal scorers. It was a part of the plan to ensure if the Frenchman is fit to play against City on Saturday.
However, now with Martial getting ruled out of the final, manager Erik Ten Hag’s plans for the final seem to be thrown into chaos. Now it is likely that Weghorst may replace Martial in the squad on Saturday, despite he has been struggling to score goals this season.
United manager set to find new attacker
Martial was a pivotal player for United this season where he had scored nine for Red Devils in all competitions in the ongoing season. However, it seems like the start of his campaign has been heavily affected due to injury. He is more likely to save his United career, with Ten Hag set to target a new attacker in the summer transfer window.
This is Martial’s sixth injury issue this season alone. The fragility of a 27-year-old has become a headache for Ten Hag. e was thought to have lined Martial up as one of his first-choice attackers during pre-season. However, the plans didn’t work out as Martial went on to miss five out of United’s first six games in the Premier League this season. The news was confirmed by the Club itself regarding Martial getting ruled out of the final.
“Anthony Martial is out of Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City due to injury,” the statement read.
