‘Aadmi he panauti hai mere khayal se’ – Fans react to Harry Kane losing the German Super Cup final against RB Leipzig

The ‘trophyless curse’ of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was visited by his new club Bayern Munich during the German Super Cup final on Saturday, much to the delight of rival supporters.

With a 3-0 victory over Bayern, defending DFL-Pokal champions RB Leipzig won their first trophy of the year. A Dani Olmo hat-trick stunned the record Bundesliga champions.

Olmo gave Leipzig the lead during the third minute prior to increasing their lead just before halftime. Kane, the all-time leading scorer for Tottenham, joined the game during the 63rd minute, however Leipzig, and Olmo, netted his team’s next goal as they easily defeated them at the Allianz Arena.

Thomas Tuchel, the coach, struggled to analyse the loss and bemoaned the futility of the four-week preseason. Even the record-breaking Bundesliga acquisition Kane, who cost €100 million, was powerless to change the outcome.

Bayern began the new season poorly, and the 30-year-old endured a disappointing outing, getting barely any touches of the ball. The all-time leading scorer for Spurs (280 goals) has made his first appearance outside of English football in search of trophies. However, given Bayern’s embarrassing performance on Saturday, that might have to remain on hold for a while.

This club is defined by its winning mentality: Harry Kane

Harry Kane, the striker widely acknowledged as being one of the greatest ever to represent England, has landed in Bavaria where he begins the next phase of his career. An overjoyed Kane expressed his ambition to play at the greatest level after signing a four-year contract with Bayern Munich, a team that has consistently won the Bundesliga.

He said, “I’m very happy to be a part of FC Bayern now. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I’ve always said that I want to compete and prove myself at the highest level during my career. This club is defined by its winning mentality – it feels very good to be here.”

When the Bavarians begin their latest Bundesliga season at Werder Bremen on Friday, Kane will look to open his Bayern account and get his side the much-needed victory.
