‘Aaj tv toot gaye honge’ – Fans react as New Zealand beat Pakistan by 5 wickets in ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up game

New Zealand beat Pakistan by five wickets during their first warm-up game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on September 29. Notably, the Kiwis got a big boost as they defeated the top-class team during the play. Speaking about the match, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and invited the Kiwis to field first.

After being opted to bat first, they had an awful start as their openers, Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq, departed for just 14 and 1 run, respectively. Following that, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan had a magnificent partnership as both star batters scored 80 and 103 runs, respectively, which boosted their middle order. After their dismissal, Saud Shakeel and Salman Agha piled up 75 and 33 runs to post a massive total of 345/5 in the given 50 overs.

However, the score posted by the Men in Green wasn’t enough for New Zealand, as they achieved the target with 36 balls to spare in the play. Notably, Rachin Ravindra piled up 97 runs, which gives them a good start. In addition, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, and Mark Chapman also scored half centuries to chase down the total.

Pakistan are an outstanding side: Kane Williamson

Meanwhile, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was ecstatic to contribute to a fantastic win for his side. The stylish right-handed batter was delighted to bat some overs during the play despite knee injuries. In addition, the 33-year-old also heaps praise on Babar Azam and Co. and calls them a fantastic side. The top-order batter feels the game was a nice exercise for him. Moreover, the opening batsman was extremely thrilled for great batting performances from his side.

“Just great to get through with some batting in the middle which is really nice. [on the injured knee]. Wasn’t a reality 5 months ago, was fortunate with the recovery and nice to be named in the squad. Went pretty well and nice to build on that. A fantastic hit-out. Pakistan are an outstanding side. It is an exercise and nice to compete and do all those things. There’s always things to work on, great batting performance on a really good surface,” Kane Williamson said following the match.
