‘Aajao bhai, women’s team ko bhi WC jitwado’ – Fans react to reports of Gary Kirsten rejecting India Women’s head coach role

Gary Kirsten, the current batting coach and mentor of the Gujarat Titans was rumoured to become the next Women’s head coach for Team India. But according to recent reports, he has turned down the offer to lead the Women in Blue owing to the IPL commitments. The search for the next head coach of the Indian Women’s team has been underway for a while now and there have been a lot of big names associated with the job.

As reported by ESPNCricinfo, the Indian Cricket Board wanted to choose Gary Kirsten as the head coach for the Indian Women’s team. However, because the Proteas coach had IPL, along with additional league commitments, that was not possible. While looking for a well-known worldwide name is usually at the top of the list, the Indian Cricket Board continues looking for a promising name.

Amol Mazumdar is reportedly also vying for the position. Hrishikesh Kanitkar, the National Cricket Academy’s spin bowling coach directed by the legendary VVS Laxman, has joined him as the team’s temporary head coach. Ramesh Powar departed the position in December to take the spin bowling coaching position at the National Cricket Academy.

In terms of the well-known international head coaches available, Charlotte Edwards has just lately entered the competition. The Indian Cricket Board’s decision to support England’s World Cup-winning captain is still up in the air. Edwards most recently served as the team’s captain for the Mumbai Indians during the Women’s Premier League’s debut season.

The Indian Cricket Board is expected to provide the new coach with a two-year deal. It should be mentioned that the Women in Blue are eager to provide a solid performance and that two significant tournaments are on the horizon. The T20 World Cup 2024, which will be hosted in Bangladesh, as well as the 2025 World Cup, which will be held in India, are two of the main major world tournaments taking place during the following two years.
