‘Direct shoot-out between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill’ – Aakash Chopra on opening batter slot for T20 World Cup 2024
Team India clinched the T20I series by 4-1 against Australia on December 3 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. Speaking of which, the home team posted 160 runs on board in the given 20 overs. However, the visitors were good while chasing but lost some crucial wickets, which made them lose the game by six runs. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra heaps praise on Ruturaj Gaikwad for his stunning performances in the series.
The well-renowed cricket commentator feels that Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill will have tough competitions for opening batter along with skipper Rohit Sharma. In addition, the former India opener feels that both need to show consistency until the T20 World Cup 2024 to be picked in India’s squad.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad – he said that he is there. Ruturaj is going to have stiff competition because Shubman Gill also plays like that. Rohit Sharma will also come now. So, suddenly you will feel that you aren’t even able to pick two among the three. So, these runs were necessary. Keep scoring runs so that you are part of the squad when the World Cup comes,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

The 46-year-old cricketer also talks about star cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal, saying that he would also get a place in the squad with a perfect left- and right-handed combination. Moreover, the former top-order batter feels Rinku Singh will also be one of the best left-handed options in the middle order.
“It might be a direct shoot-out between him and Shubman Gill. You might keep one of them as both do similar things in T20 cricket. Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored enough runs that you will keep him in mind – left-right combination at the top. You will get a left-hander down the order in the form of Rinku (Singh). He could have scored a few more runs. He got out in the powerplay in all five matches,” he added further.
