‘Aap joh bol rahe hai voh practical nahi hai’ – Fans react as Aakash Chopra suggests new logical rules for upcoming editions of IPL

As many as six teams will compete for the remaining three slots in the playoffs of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the final weekend of the league round, as only the defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT) have so far confirmed their position.

All of the teams in the playoff race – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Mumbai Indians (MI) – play their games this weekend. The three remaining teams are Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) who have got eliminated from this edition’s cash-rich league.

The IPL 2023 saw various rule tweaks that had a favorable impact on the competition. The Impact Player rule has completely changed the competition, requiring much more strategic discussion and pivotal decision-making. In addition, players are now permitted to challenge wide-ball and no-ball decisions made by the on-field umpire.

Bonus point is a tangible reward for playing significantly better: Aakash Chopra

However, there are still opportunities to enhance and even modify IPL standards and regulations. Aakash Chopra, a former India player, and current pundit, has recommended that the IPL add two new regulations that might make the game even more intense.

In a tweet, the well-known analyst made two good comments. The fact that the IPL‘s final league matches now take place at various times offers an unfair advantage to the side playing the last game since they can then fully analyse the situation and perform accordingly.

Chopra argued that in order to remove this unfair advantage, the last leg matches should be played simultaneously. He also recommended awarding bonus points to teams that win by a wide margin or with plenty of innings remaining.

“There are two changes that I’d propose for next season’s IPL,

1. Introduction of the Bonus Points for winning a game with a huge margin. NRR is absolute but over 14 games is a tough math to understand. Bonus point is a tangible reward for playing significantly better. And also, keeps the interest alive for longer.

2. Provision of starting the games in the final leg at the same time. Today, LSG has the advantage of knowing the exact math to go over CSK on NRR…because CSK plays first. Same for tomorrow depending on today’s results. Thoughts welcome,” Chopra tweeted.
