‘Ab aaram se match dekhunga’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli falls for rare duck vs England in ODI World Cup 2023

India and England are playing their sixth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Sunday. the two teams reached Lucknow with different ambitions in mind. A huge crowd had gathered to watch Virat Kohli the former Indian skipper.

Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first and went in with the same team as the last game. The pitch looked different as it looked like it will offer a lot more spin and batting could be a bit difficult. The Indian team did not make change to the team from the last game versus New Zealand.

The Indian cricket team were placed at second place ahead of the game on Sunday. Defending champions England on the other hand were placed at the last place. Team India needed a win to reach the semi-finals while England needed a win to stay alive in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

Virat Kohli scores his first duck in ODI World Cups

At the fall of Shubman Gill, the Lucknow crowd let out a huge roar. It was because India’s most favorite batter was coming out to bat number three. The English skipper Jos Buttler then set up a field in a bid to deny Virat Kohli his first run.

Virat Kohli drove David Willey in what would have fetched him a sure shot boundary. Dawid Malan flung himself and stopped the ball from going for a four to frustrate Virat Kohli. The former Indian skipper gave charge to David Willey the very next ball and tried to clear the field. The 34-year-old though couldn’t time the ball well only to be caught by Ben Stokes for a duck off 9 balls.

This was the first time that Virat Kohli was ever dismissed for a duck in ODI World Cup history. There was silence in the crowd as there was shock and disappointment written on the faces of the fans.

Even Virat Kohli couldn’t believe his badly timed shot which contributed in his downfall. The wicket left the former Indian skipper crestfallen as India lost their second wicket in a quick time to bring England back into the game.
