The Afghanistan cricket team defeated defending champions England and registered their first win of the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 15 at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Notably, the Afghanistan team suffered a loss over Bangladesh in the first game of the event, whereas Team India thrashed them on October 11 in the second clash of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Speaking about the game, it was England skipper Jos Buttler who won the toss and invited the Afghanistan side to bat first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, star opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz played the wonderful knock of 80 runs from 57 balls featuring eight boundaries and four sixes with a solid strike rate of 140 and stitched over 100 runs of stand with Ibrahim Zardan, which gave them a magnificent start against a strong English set-up.

Following them, Shah departed for just 3 runs. Skipper Shahidi and middle-order batsman Omarzai pile up 14 and 19 runs, respectively. Notably, wicketkeeper-batsman Khil hammered his half-century that boosted their lower order and helped them post 284 runs before getting all out against Jos Buttler-led England in their third game of the ODI World Cup 2023.

However, England had an awful start as wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow was dismissed for just 2 runs, whereas star batsman Dawid Malan could only pile up 32 runs. In addition, Joe Root could also get 11 runs. However, SRH star batsman Harry Brook kept their hope alive but lost his wicket on 66 runs. Notably, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes also departed quickly.

Later, in the end, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood tried hard to chase down the target but got all out for just 215 runs, which helped the Afghanistan side win their game by 69 runs.
