‘After Yuvraj Singh, nobody has…..’ – Rohit Sharma opens up on No. 4 issue for India ahead of Asia Cup and World Cup

The Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is all set to begin in less than two months, but the Men in Blue are still unable to find the number 4 batter in the squad. Notably, there is no official update on Indian star batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s return to the squad, whereas some cricket pundits are expecting the young batter Tilak Varma to fill that spot in the upcoming mega tournaments. Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that spot number 4 is an issue ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup for his side.

In addition, the opening batter affirms that after former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, no other player has settled at the number 4 spot in the batting order. Moreover, the right-handed batter highlighted the name of Shreyas Iyer as a good option for that spot, but injuries kept him away from the team. Furthermore, the Mumbai Indians skipper says that there will be a lot of players playing in that spot owing to the injuries.

“Look, No. 4 has been an issue for us for a long time. After Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh), nobody has come and settled themselves in. But, for a long period of time, Shreyas (Iyer) has actually batted at No. 4 and he has done well — his numbers are really good. Unfortunately, injuries have given him a bit of trouble; he has been out for a while and that is honestly what has happened in the last 4-5 years. A lot of these guys have got injured and you will always see a new guy coming and playing there,” Rohit said, being quoted by NDTV Sports.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see who makes it to the number 4 in the upcoming Asia Cup commencing on August 30 as well as the ODI World Cup that is slated to take place in October and November this year.
