‘Aise hi khelte raho’- Fans react as India beat West Indies by seven wickets to keep series alive

India defeated West Indies in the 3rd T20I by seven wickets at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, to keep the five-match series alive. The hosts captain Rovman Powell elected to bat first after winning the toss. India struggled with the ball as Windies openers Kyle Mayers (25) and Brandon King (42) hammered 55 runs for the opening partnership.

Kuldeep Yadav again made the batters look shattered in front of him. He picked up some crucial wickets in the middle overs letting India to turn the favour of the game. Nicholas Pooran played a vital knock of 20 runs. It looked like the hosts will be bundled for a low total but the skipper played an explosive innings scoring 40 runs in just 19 balls to take his team to a total of 159 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav outclasses West Indies

In response chasing the target of 160, India openers had another poor effort, with debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring only one run and Shubman Gill scoring only six. Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, rediscovered his touch, which was a gift in disguise for the squad. Suryakumar produced a magnificent performance, blasting 83 in 44 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. His runs were scored at a strike rate of more than 188.

Surya completed the feat in 49 innings, making him the fastest Indian to do it. Tilak Varma stood by him well and struck an unbeaten 49 runs before skipper Hardik Pandya completed the game undefeated at 20 runs to help his team win the opening game of the series by 7 wickets. He also passed Shikhar Dhawan to become India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in T20Is. He has 1,780 runs at an average of 45.64 in 51 T20Is and 49 innings, with three centuries and 14 fifties. His highest possible score is 117. His runs have been scored at a strike rate of more than 174.

Hardik Pandya stated, “Very important. We spoke about the fact, that these games will be very important. We had to back ourselves. Two losses or two wins do not change things. We have a long-term plan and it was important we showed our character. [Spinners] There were no certain plans. We wanted to use them more with Nicky [Pooran] not coming in.”
