Al-Nassr keen on signing former Liverpool striker to partner Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Pro League

Saudi Arabian football clubs are actively making blockbuster signings in a bid to boost their global image, which began with Al-Nassr acquiring Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. If reports are to be believed, the Riyadh-based club are now looking to land Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mane to join Ronaldo in the frontline.

In May, Al-Nassr approached Bayern to consider bringing in their striker, but the discussions were put on hold owing to hierarchical changes at the club. The talks, however, have restarted, with the two parties meeting on Thursday (July 13) to discuss a potential deal. After allowing Al-Nassr to communicate with Mane regarding the summer transfer, CEO Ahmed Al-Ghamdi met with the former Liverpool star’s representative Bjorn Bezemer in Mallorca to discuss personal terms.

Mane enjoyed a successful 6-year run with Premier League giants Liverpool but was unable to replicate that with Bayern and found it difficult to stay with the German club. The 31-year-old joined Bayern Munich last year in a €41 million move, but he failed to live up to the price tag, playing only six Bundesliga games for the Munich-based side in the second half of the season.

The Bundesliga giants will be eager to reach an agreement with the Saudi club after being dissatisfied with Mane’s performance. They have reportedly placed a €30 million price tag on the forward, whose contract is valid until 2025, in an effort to reclaim a sizeable amount of the money used to hire the Senegalese expert.

Meanwhile, Al Nassr, is hoping Mane can unleash his heroics in the Saudi Pro League as they are keen to secure the Senegal international’s services. They have also signed Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan for €18 million and appointed Portuguese tactician Luis Castro as their new manager ahead of the 2023-24 season.

While Mane joins Ronaldo at Mrsool Park, Castro is likely to deploy him in his preferred left-wing position. Abdulrahman Ghareeb will play on the right wing, while Talisca will play as an attacking midfielder and Ronaldo will lead the attack.
