‘Alag hi level ka scam’ – Fans stunned as Chief Selector Chetan Sharma makes shocking revelations about Indian players doping
Controversy broke out in the cricket world as Indian Cricket Board chief selector Chetan Sharma revealed confidential selection matters regarding the Indian team in a sting operation conducted by Zee Media. His disclosure about doping created quite a stir in the Indian cricket community as he claimed that many players take injections to get fit.
Sharma, who was recently reinstated by the Indian Cricket Board after being removed following India’s poor performance in the 2022 20-20 World Cup, admits that big stars also take injections and that they have their own doctors outside the Indian camp. He further said that some star players get green signal from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) even when they are not fully fit, and then the selectors take the final decision.
The former Indian cricketer was also heard saying that around 80-85% players are unfit during the time of selection and selectors are requested to keep them in contention. Some players go to their own doctor to fake their fitness, inject some drugs and pass the tests despite being fully fit, he added.
“The players are not fit but they take injections to play. They are ready to play even at 80 per cent fitness. They take injections and start playing,” Sharma said in the sting operation video.
“Even if they are around 85 percent fit, they will say ‘Sir let us play’ but they are not cleared by the medical team that is where the problem lies. The players always want to play, they never refuse to play.
“Bumrah could not even bend so what can he do? 1-2 such major injuries happen. Otherwise even at 80 percent (fitness) they are so naughty that they quietly sneak into a corner and take the injection and say ‘Sir we are fit’.
“It is an injection, not pain killer. We don’t even know that they have taken the injection. For pain killer, they need a prescription, it can also come under doping. With regards to injection, they know which injections don’t come under anti-doping.”
Chetan also opened up about the ego tussle between former Indian captain Virat Kohli and former Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly. It remains to be seen how the sensational sting operation will change the dynamics of Indian cricket going forward.
