Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered an improbable choke against the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 30 of IPL 2023 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The home team had a good start chasing 136 runs against GT as the skipper KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers added 55 runs for the first wicket in 6.3. LSG were in a commendable position after 15 overs and heading towards a comfortable victory with Rahul still at the crease. After that, GT made a comeback with their tight bowling and went on to win the match by 7 runs.

The match went down to the last over where LSG needed 12 runs to win. On the second ball of the over, Rahul tried to go big by hitting a pull shot off Mohit Sharma at a deep backward square leg. But it wasn’t enough to clear the rope as Jayant Yadav made no mistake in taking the catch. Rahul got out after scoring 68 runs off 61 balls hitting eight boundaries. In the next delivery, Marcus Stoinis tried to smash the full-length delivery out of the park but ended up giving a catch to David Miller at long-on.

Mohit Sharma won Player of the Match for his match-winning spell

LSG now required 10 runs off the last four balls, in the third delivery of the over, Deepak Hooda hit the full-length delivery straight back to the bowler. Mohit manages to get a hand on the but it went away due to pace. Deepak and Ayush Badoni completed the first run and were running for the second but the throw from Vijay Shankar at the non-striker’s end was spoiled their plans and Badoni got run out in an attempt to get a second.

In the next ball, Hooda managed to whip the yorker by Mohit to deep mid-wicket and again asked his partner to run for 2. This time, Rashid Khan’s quick throw at the keeper’s end once again spoiled LSG’s plan as Hooda got run out trying to complete the second run.

LSG lost 4 wickets in four balls and the match already went away from them as now they needed 8 runs off the last ball. Ravi Bishnoi tried to chase the slower length delivery by Mohit but misses and GT scripted one of the great comebacks to register a thrilling victory. Mohit Sharma was awarded Player of the Match for his sensational bowling in the last over to defend 12 runs. He took 2 wickets in his three overs conceding only 17 runs.
