‘Difficult to watch Sri Lanka’s great walking off the field…’ – Bangladesh head coach hits out at Shakib-Al-Hasan’s timeout appeal

The Sri Lanka cricket team suffered a great loss over Bangladesh in their eighth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 7 at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. However, both teams are making headlines after Angelo Mathews was dismissed via timed out for the first time in the history of cricket. Following the same, Bangladesh skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan is facing strong criticism, as he was the one who appealed for an out despite knowing the equipment failure.

However, Bangladesh bowling head coach Allan Donald also lashed out at Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan for such a creepy and disgraceful act. Notably, the former right-arm pacer was disappointed to witness such an incident from his team. The legendary cricketer reveals that it was difficult to watch Angelo Mathews return without playing a single ball after he was given a timeout.

“It was disappointing to see. I can understand Shakib taking his chance. His words were ‘I was doing everything to win’. You can sense in my voice that I don’t like I don’t like that sort of thing. It was really difficult to watch that unfold – one of Sri Lanka’s all-time greats walking off the field without a ball bowled to him being given out for time. That’s where I stand on that,” Allan Donald said in an interview with CricBlog as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

I just don’t want to see things like that: Allan Donald

Moreover, Bangladesh fast-bowling coach Allan Donald says that Shakib-Al-Hasan should respect the dignity of the game and other teams as well. The great coach reiterates that Shakib-Al-Hasan should have taken the initiative in another way to show some respect before making such headlines.

“You talk about the respect and the dignity for each other and the game, the spirit of the game. I just don’t want to see things like that. The most sensible thing would have been to just say, ‘Okay, no worries, mate, sort your helmet out quickly; you have time to replace it,” he added further.
