Andre Russell makes comeback to West Indies squad for T20I Series against England

Star all-rounder Andre Russell has been recalled to the West Indian team. The 35-year-old is part of the 15-man squad which is set to play England in a five-match –T20 series. Russell last played for his country in 2021 against Australia in Abu Dhabi during the World Cup.

The inclusion of the West Indian veteran has raised hopes of him being in the plans for the T20 World Cup next year. Kolkata Knight Riders have also retained Andre Russell despite his bad run of form for the last few years.

West Indies recall Andre Russell for T20I series –

Rovman Powell-led West Indies is set to welcome Andre Russell back into the national fold. The Jamaican will feature for the two-time T20I World Champions during the five-match T20I series against West Indies.

The first game will be played on 12th December in Barbados, the next two games will be played in Grenada. The series will end in Trinidad and Tobago as the Brian Lara Stadium will host the final two games of the series.

West Indian selection committee chief Desmond Haynes while speaking to the media said “This will be the final T20I series for the West Indies in 2023, as they prepare to be one of the two host nations for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in June 2024”

Gudakesh Motie has also earned a call-up to the T20I side which will witness Shai Hope be the deputy skipper. The West Indies team on Saturday beat England to win their 1st ODI series against their opponents for over 25 years.

Batting first England scored 206/9 from their 40 overs in a rain-affected game. Ben Duckett was the top scorer for the visiting side with 71 runs. Jos Buttler was out for a first-ball duck while Liam Livingstone scored 45 runs off 56 balls.

Chasing 188 to win, Alick Athanaze and Keacy Carty gave the home side a flying start. The English bowlers did make a comeback by picking wickets at regular intervals. Romario Shepherd though struck 41 not out off 25 balls to help his side to a 2-1 ODI series win.
