‘Anna ka swag hai’ – Fans react as Ravichandran Ashwin reportedly to be added to India’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad if Axar Patel does not recover

India are all set to play the three-match ODI series against Australia commencing on September 22. Notably, the squad has marked the surprise inclusion of India’s star cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin, who was not part of the recent West Indies series or Asia Cup 2023 squad. However, Axar Patel’s injury in the Asia Cup marks the availability of Washington Sundar as well as off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Notably, after the announcement of the squad for the upcoming series, the newly appointed chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, has provided fresh injury updates on the Axar Patel injury. The former India cricketer revealed that Axar Patel will get fit ahead of the ODI World Cup. In addition, the former all-rounder further added that if something doesn’t happen, India will look for great all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar in the squad.

“Axar Patel should be okay before the 2023 World Cup. If the need arises, we will have a look at Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin,” chief selector Ajit Agarkar said during press conference on Monday.

Meanwhile, while attending the press conference, Rohit Sharma was asked about Ashwin’s lack of game experience in the 50-over format, which the 36-year-old skipper said was not a concern for them owing to the skill set Ashwin has. In addition, the opening batter also added that getting him in the squad will give him the great chance to understand where he is and how his body supports him.

“With guys like Ashwin, game time and time on the ground is not so much of a concern. Which is why we thought if he is an option for us, we need to get him in. With the kind of experience he has, for guys like him, it’s all in the head more than the body. I thought getting him in could give is a chance to understand where he is at, how his body is and stuff like that,” Rohit Sharma said.
