Rohit Sharma and Co. are gearing up for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is all set to take place in India, commencing on October 5. Notably, the Men in Blue will be locking horns against Pat Cummins side on October 8 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium at Chepauk in Chennai to commence their journey. In addition, as the preparations are on to host India’s first match in Chennai, Apex Cricket Council head Andy Atkinson visited the venue on Friday, August 25, to take stock of the pitch and the outfield ahead of the ODI World Cup.

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association head R.I. Palani revealed this news. In addition, the head informed the media that the routine inspection had been carried out in Chennai ahead of the major tournament. Moreover, the TNCA Secretary also said that the head of the Apex Cricket Council was delighted to see the facilities and the work done by the TNCA. Furthermore, Palani also shared that the head was very surprised to see everything done to host the games ahead of the ODI World Cup.

He was delighted with all the facilities and the work we have done: R.I. Palani

“It is a routine inspection carried out before a big tournament. He was delighted with all the facilities and the work we have done. We have everything in place to host the games, and he was even pleasantly surprised that we have things in place already,” TNCA Secretary R.I. Palani told Sportstar.

Meanwhile, the Chennai stadium will host a total of five matches of the ODI World Cup. Notably, there have been no matches played in Chennai after the end of IPL 2023, which allows the association to work on the facilities and the requirements that they need to host the upcoming marquee event. In addition, a plethora of new LED lights have been installed at Chepauk, which are around 40–50% more energy efficient as compared to the old lights.
