‘Apne kaam se kaam rakh bhai’ – Fans troll Shashi Tharoor as calls for Sanju Samson after ‘poor’ Suryakumar Yadav’s hattrick of golden ducks

After winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, team India recently participated in the three-match ODI series against Australia, which the visitors went on to win 2-1 after trailing 0-1. Former India skipper Virat Kohli scored a fifty in the third and final match of the series at MA Chidambaram which was a series decider as well but it went in vain as India lost the match by 21 runs. The world number 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav failed in the series as he registered three golden ducks.

As Surya struggled in the series, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that Sanju Samson should replace the Mumbai-born cricketer as he is struggling to sore runs in a 50-over format. “Now that poor Surya Kumar Yadav has set an unenviable world record with his three golden ducks in a row, is it unreasonable to ask why Sanju Samson, averaging 66 in ODIs despite batting at an unfamiliar position for him at 6, wasn’t in the squad? What does he need to do?” Tharoor wrote in his tweet.

That can happen to anyone: Rohit Sharma

Suryakumar has already drawn harsh criticism for his hat-trick of first-ball dismissals.  In each of the first two ODIs, Mitchell Starc delivered a delivery that got Surya out. Suryakumar displayed clean bowled while playing on the back foot in the final ODI in Chennai.

The fans have been upset by Surya’s constant failures in ODIs, but the team management has given the batter their full support. Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, suggested that the Indian administration is not paying too much attention to his failures in the ODI series.

He (Suryakumar) played only three balls in the series. I don’t know how much you can look into it. He got three good balls,” the Mumbai franchise skipper was quoted as saying on the post match presentation after losing the third ODI.

“He plays spin really well which is why we wanted to hold him back and give him the last 15-20 overs where he could play his game. But, unfortunately, he could only play three balls in the series. That can happen to anyone. The potential, the quality, is always there. He is just going through that (lean) phase right now,” he added.
