‘Apni wicket part-timer ko de di’ – Fans react as Yashasvi Jaiswal scores 80 runs of 74 balls vs England in the 1st test match

England’s team has been well-known for their Bazball approach in Test cricket ever since Brendon McCullum took over as their head coach. Their unique approach did not work in India. The entire team was bowled out for 246 even after the openers gave them a good start. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal seemed to have adopted the Bazball approach. He started his inning with a boundary and ended his inning with a boundary. Jaiswal scored 80 runs off 74 balls which included 10 boundaries and three sixes.

Although he gave away his wicket on the second ball of day 2, fans are quite happy about the kind of cricket he played on day 1. His fearless and aggressive batting pushed the England bowlers to their backfoot. On day 1, Jaiswal batted comfortably throughout the match without giving the bowlers a chance to take his wicket. Even after Rohit Sharma’s wicket, Jaiswal continued to play well with Shubman Gill.

However, Jaiswal failed to continue with his game on day 2 as he gave away his wicket on the ball of the day. Part-timer Joe Root succeeded in taking Jaiswal’s wicket which their regular bowlers couldn’t do. So far, India has lost three wickets with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer batting their heart out. India will be hoping to score more runs to put pressure on England in the second innings.

‘It was a tough day, but a good day’ – Mark Wood before the start of day 2

After a tough day with both the bat and the ball, England’s pacer Mark Wood feels that the team will make a good comeback on day 2. He credited India for maintaining the momentum throughout the day and not losing early wickets. That saved the day for India. Wood appreciated Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting and stated his intention of taking his wicket early in the morning. It’s safe to say that he’s a man of his word as England took Jaiswal’s wicket on the second ball of day 2.

Mark Wood before the match said, “It was a tough day, but a good day. We would have liked things to be different at the end, but sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition. They played really well. There’s another opportunity this morning to get things right and try to put pressure on India. It was a good day, back and forth for both sides, probably India are just ahead at the end. We had all kinds of conditions in Abu Dhabi.”
