Indian Cricket Board’s chief selector Chetan Sharma resigned from his post on Friday. The Board Secretary Jay Shah has also accepted the former’s resignation.

“Yes, Chetan’s resignation has been accepted by Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah after being offered. After the sting operation, his position had become impossible to maintain. He quit on his own and without being asked to do so” on Friday, an Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying.

Together with other members of the selection committee, Chetan was in Kolkata for the Ranji Trophy final between Bengal and Saurashtra. To choose the Irani Cup team, they were present. After India’s disappointing performance at the 20-20 World Cup in Australia, the 57-year-old, who had returned as the chief selector but, recently, got into trouble after he was caught on camera by ZEE Media disclosing insider information.

Chetan Sharma’s big statement on Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli

In the sting operation conducted by Zee, Chetan claimed in his series of accusations that numerous Indian cricketers use injections to accelerate their return to the international stage.

Chetan spoke up about an “ego fight” between former Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly and former India skipper Virat Kohli. When Ganguly was in charge, the Bangalore franchise batter resigned as India’s skipper. Ganguly, at that time, stated that the Indian Cricket Board had urged Kohli to change his mind when he gave up the captaincy of India.

Along with revealing details of private conversations between captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, the chief selector asserted that he had disagreements with management regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s return. The Indian bowler has had a difficult time rejoining the national team since suffering a back injury.

Bumrah is likely to miss the rest of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the World Cup year, the great bowler is also questionable for the ODI series against Australia.
