‘Maza hi aa gaya’ – Fans react as Australia thrash Pakistan by 62 runs in ODI World Cup 2023

The five-time world champions Australia have defeated Pakistan by 62 runs in their fourth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 20 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Speaking about the game here, it was Pakistan skipper Babar Azam who won the toss and invited Australia to bat first during the play. Notably, their great openers, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, struck off a wonderful century that made a great start for Australia.

Following them, no other batsmen could get off the runs, and they were only able to post 367/9 in the given 50 overs despite a great start. Notably, Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf marked their great comeback and reduced Australia to a decent score despite the over 200-run stand between Warner and Marsh.

However, during the chase, Pakistan also got off to a magnificent start as their openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq piled up 64 and 70 runs, respectively. Following them, middle-order batsman Mohammad Rizwan again stood up but lost his wicket for 46 runs, and his wicket crushed the hope of the Pakistan team to win the game against Australia.

We spoke about batting till 35 overs at least and then probably we could score heavily: David Warner

Meanwhile, David Warner, who walked off 163 runs, received the Player of the Match award. The left-handed batsman called his partnership with Mitchell Marsh awesome, which guided them to the fantastic win. In addition, the top-order batsman revealed the tactics and pragmatic skills he used throughout the game to score big runs.

“It (partnership with Marsh) was awesome, once we got the pace of the wicket, we were going to try and target their bowlers. I was just one bit of luck away and it helps when you’re hitting the ball out of the middle. Playing on a ground like this as well, you got to take your chances. Just to get out there and build a partnership with Mitch. We spoke about batting till 35 overs at least and then probably we could score heavily,” David Warner said after the win.
