The five-time world champions Australia have defeated Afghanistan by 3 wickets in their eighth clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 7 at Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, following the great win, they booked their place in the semi-final spot of the marquee event. Speaking about the game here, Afghanistan captain Shahidi won the toss and invited Pat Cummins and Co. to field first in the game. Notably, after being elected to bat first, they had a magnificent start as wicketkeeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 21 runs while Ibrahim Zardan went on to score the great century. The great opening batsman piled up an unbeaten 129 runs from 143 balls, featuring eight boundaries and three sixes that gave them hope to post the challenging total against strong Aussies.

Notably, Rahmat Shah also gets 30 runs, and skipper Shahidi also piles up 26 runs to boost their middle order. Following their dismissal, Omarzai scored 22 runs. However, later in the end, Gujarat Titans star Rashid Khan scored unbeaten 35 runs from just 18 balls, hitting two boundaries and three sixes that helped them post 291/5 against Australia.

This was the sixth straight win for Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023

However, during the chase, the Men in Yellow had an awful start as left-handed batsman Travis Head was departed on a duck while DC batsman David Warner could only get 18 runs. Following them, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh scored 24 runs, and Marnus Labuschagne got 14 runs. Notably, wicketkeeper batsman Josh Inglis was departed for the duck.

Meanwhile, Australia’s great all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, was the star of the game and guided their side to an unstoppable victory against Afghanistan. Notably, the great all-rounder smashed unbeaten 201 runs from just 128 balls, featuring 21 boundaries and ten sixes with a solid strike rate of 158 that helped his side chase down the total with 19 balls to spare.
