The Australia cricket team has finally gotten their first win against Sri Lanka in the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 16 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Notably, Pat Cummins and Co. had an awful start to the tournament as they lost their first game against host Team India, whereas South Africa thrashed them in their second clash of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Speaking about the match here, it was Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis who won the toss and invited Australia to field first. Notably, after opting to bat first, they had a wonderful start as their openers, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera, sparked over 100 runs for the partnership in the play. Star batsman Nissanka hammered 61 runs from 67 balls, featuring eight boundaries, whereas right-handed batsman Kusal Perera piled up 78 runs, including 12 boundaries, which gave them a wonderful start against Australia.

Following them, skipper Kusal Mendis could only get nine runs, whereas star batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama got just eight runs. However, great all-rounder Charith Asalanka tried hard to boost their middle order but lost his wicket for just 25 runs. Notably, after his wicket, all other batsmen were dismissed after scoring runs in the single digit, which helped Australia to bounce back in the game.
