Virat Kohli scored his 73rd international ton and 45th ODI ton of his career in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. With this century, the former Bangalore franchise skipper equaled Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of most ODI 100s against any team and most ODI 100s in a country. He scored 113 runs off 87 balls with 12 boundaries and a six with a strike rate of over 129.

Both players share a record of nine ODI centuries against a team. Sachin has done it against the West Indies and Kohli has now done it against Sri Lanka. The Indian cricketers also share a record for the most ODI tons in a country, which is 20. Tendulkar did it in 160 innings, while on the other hand, Virat did it in only 99 innings.

Former India opener, Gautam Gambhir picked Kohli over Tendulkar as he went on to say that the Bangalore franchise cricketer will go on to score many more centuries than the 49-year-old.

Will Virat Kohli be able to complete 100 tons in International Cricket?

“It’s not about the record honestly. Virat Kohli will get many more centuries than Sachin Tendulkar in the 50-over format. See, the rules have changed, ” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

“You should not compare eras. It’s not fair to compare eras as well where there was one new ball as compared to now when there are 2 new balls with five fielders inside. But yes, he has been a master in this format and has shown it over such a long time,” he added.

Sachin Tendulkar is also known as the God of cricket and almost every record against his name that a particular batter can have. Everyone thought that it would be difficult for anyone to come near the record of 100 international centuries. But seeing the former Bangalore franchise skipper’s current form and fitness, the player can easily ease past the god.

After Kohli’s ton, Sachin fans are coming up with replies on social media of him batting against legends and claiming that he can never be matched:
