‘Baby doll with Kylian Mbappe’s face’ – Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez mocks the french striker after FIFA World Cup 2022 final
Emiliano Martinez made fun of Kylian Mbappe, once more, this time while clutching a baby doll with the French star’s likeness on it during Argentina’s championship parade. To make matters worse, Martinez actually raised the Mbappe doll while standing close to the 24-year-old PSG player Lionel Messi as the two enjoyed Argentina’s victory over France in the penalty shootout.
After their victory, the Argentina players celebrated around the locker room while simultaneously singing “a minute’s silence for” in unison, leaving a pause in which goalkeeper Martinez yelled, “For Mbappe who is dead!”
Martinez and Mbappé have been at odds since before the World Cup even started. Mbappé claimed that because European football is of a greater caliber than football played in other parts of the world, European teams had an edge during the FIFA World Cup.
Football is not as advanced as in Europe: Kylian Mbappe
“The advantage we have in Europe is that we play among ourselves with high-level matches all the time, such as the Nations League, for example,” Mbappe said.
“When we arrive at the World Cup, we are ready, whereas Brazil and Argentina do not have this level in South America. Football is not as advanced as in Europe. That’s why at the last World Cups, it’s always the Europeans who win.”
In response to the PSG strikers, Martinez said,
“He doesn’t know enough about football. He never played in South America. When you don’t have this experience, it may be better not to talk about it. But it doesn’t matter. We are a great team, recognised as such.”
Kylian Mbappe, on the other side, also played exceptionally well. He concluded the competition as the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals, but he still fell short of capturing a second consecutive championship after scoring a hat trick that seemed to come out of nowhere to electrify the World Cup final.
