The Zimbabwe team in the World Cup Qualifiers seem to have found some really great form off as the spirited side recently defeated two-time ODI World Cup champions, West Indies in a thrilling encounter by 35 runs. The Zimbabwean skipper, Sean Williams has certainly led from the front with the bat as well as with his aggressive brand of captaincy.

Zimbabwe played their fourth game of the tournament against the United States of America (USA). The hosts were put into bat and they made the most of the conditions. After a decent first wicket partnership between Innocent Kaia (32) and Joylord Gumbie (78) putting together a decent 56 runs partnership.

But the solidity was provided by Sean Williams who went on to score a splendid 174 runs off just 101 runs. After a steady start, the skipper made a mockery of the USA’s bowling as he scored all around the park. A splendid 160-run stand for Zimbabwe provided a perfect launching pad for the hitters like Sikandar Raza (48) and Ryan Burl (47), who provided the accurate finishing touches to take Zimbabwe past 400 and helped them register their best-ever ODI score of 408/6.

The World Cup Qualifiers 2023 is entering its business end as the six top teams have already decided who will inch a step closer to booking a berth in the 50-over World Cup that is scheduled to be played in India. The Zimbabwe team seems to have picked up just at the right time and are looking solid in all three departments of the games.
