The last day of the second Ashes Test has certainly lived up to its expectations with the match now promising a thrilling finish. The English side would be relying heavily on the skipper Ben Stokes who literally lives for a situation like this and has also taken England home on multiple occasions before. The Headingly heroics might be still fresh in the minds of the English as well as Australian fans, where England came out of nowhere to win the match.

The Day 5 of the Ashes Test saw England starting steadily and surviving the first hour without any wickets. But, soon after the drinks break Ben Duckett fall quickly when the southpaw tickled one down the leg and was caught by Alex Carey for 83 runs off 112 balls. But what transpired next certainly divided the fans into two halves.

England batter Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal caused controversy on the final day of the second Test at Lord’s in the ongoing Ashes series on Sunday. England, chasing a target of 371, was 193 for 5 when Bairstow ducked to avoid a bouncer from Australian pacer Cameron Green on the last ball of the 52nd over.

The wicketkeeper batter, assuming that the over had finished, stepped out of his crease but Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey hit the stumps with an underarm throw after collecting the ball. Upon further review, the umpire decided to dismiss Bairstow as the ball was not dead. The 33-year-old departed after scoring 10 runs off 22 balls, as England lost their sixth wicket at Lord’s. Following Bairstow’s dismissal, the crowd started chanting,” cheat, cheat” to display their discontent towards the decision.

Soon after the dismissal several former cricket players voiced their opinions on the subject following Bairstow’s dismissal, with former England captain Eoin Morgan claiming Carey did well. While Mark Taylor, the former captain of Australia, defended Carey and said that although it didn’t look good, he made the right choice. Moreover, Glenn McGrath, another famous Australian bowler, said that Carey had already thrown the ball at the stumps before Bairstow began to move.
