Bangladesh cricket team beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in their eighth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 6 at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Speaking about the game here, it was Bangladesh skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan who won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first after winning the toss.

Notably, after being sent to bat first, Sri Lanka had a decent start as their opener, Pathum Nissanka, got 41 runs while Kusal Perera scored 4 runs. Following them, skipper Kusal Mendis gets 19 runs. However, middle-order batsmen Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka forged a great partnership that helped them boost their middle order.

Sadeera got 41 runs while Charith Asalanka scored a magnificent tonne as he smashed 108 runs from 105 balls featuring six boundaries and four sixes. However, towards the end, great all-rounders Dhananjaya de Silva and Maheesh Theekshana got crucial 34 and 21 runs, respectively, which helped them score 279 runs before getting an all-out.

Meanwhile, during the chase, Bangladesh had an awful start as Tanzid Hasan and Liton Das departed cheaply. However, Najmul Shanto gets 90 runs and forms a wonderful partnership with skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan, who also scored 82 runs from 65 balls, achieving 12 boundaries and two sixes with a solid strike rate of 126.

This was the second win for the Bangladesh side in the tournament

Meanwhile, Towhid Hridoy played a great knock in the game, which helped the team win the game against Sri Lanka. Notably, this was the second win for the Shakib-Al-Hasan side in the tournament. Bangladesh got their first win in their opening game against Afghanistan, and following that, they went on to lose the games.

However, both teams will still be placed at the bottom of the points table and face the threat of the Champions Trophy Qualification, which is all set to be hosted in 2025 in host country Pakistan. Meanwhile, the ongoing campaign was disastrous for the Sri Lankan side, as they shattered their hopes of reaching the semi-final after suffering a humiliating and embarrassing loss over hosts India.
