Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan gets ruled out due to injury ahead of last ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Australia

Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in ODI World Cup 2023, by three wickets. They have kept their hopes for their qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy. They were disappointed in the tournament with their performance. The Bangla Tigers have now lost their skipper Shakib Al Hasan as the all-rounder suffered an injury during the game against the Lankans.

As per the reports, the injury occurred while Shakib was batting, He injured his left Index finger. An X-ray report confirmed the injury and he will miss the final game against Australia in Pune on 11 November. This is a big blow for the side as he is an important player for the side and Najimul Hasan Shanto might be the stand-in captain in the last game.

Shakib has been lashed for his gesture of the way he timed out Angelo Mathews. He has been slammed by former cricketers and experts for his controversial call during the game. The all-rounder is playing his fifth and probably the last World Cup.

Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers: Bayjedul Islam Khan

National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said, “Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab.”

Shakib played an important knock of 82 runs off 65 balls, hitting 12 fours and 2 sixes. He had an all-round performance as he picked 2 for 57 runs. He was named the player of the match for his performance.

Speaking about the decision the skipper said, “One of our fielders came to me and said that if I appealed, he would be out. The umpire asked me if I was serious. It’s in the laws; I don’t know if it’s right or wrong. I felt like I was at war. Whatever I had to do, I did it. There will be debates. Today that (the time out) helped, I won’t deny that!”
