‘Tamim ne karwa diya hoga Injured’ – Fans react as Shakib-Al-Hasan gets ruled out of ODI World Cup 2023 opener against Afghanistan

According to sources, Bangladesh skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan has been ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023 opening game. Notably, the star cricketer sustained injuries while playing football on Thursday evening. The news came when Mehidy Hasan Miraz came over during the toss against Sri Lanka for their first warm-up game in Guwahati on September 29.

Notably, the great all-rounder is set to miss the second warm-up game, which is set to take place on October 2 against England. In addition, the skipper will miss their first game against Afghanistan on October 7. This is the biggest blow for Bangladesh, as Shakib-Al-Hasan has been one of the most prominent and crucial players for his side owing to his performance and experience during major tournaments.

Speaking about the ongoing warm-up clash, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and invited Bangladesh to field first. Notably, after being opted to bat first, the Sri Lankan side has been looking in a great position as they will be looking to beat Bangladesh in the absence of Shakib-Al-Hasan.

May be I will retire from three formats at the same time: Shakib-Al-Hasan

Meanwhile, the southpaw has recently provided fresh updates on his retirement plan. The slow left-arm orthodox bowler is set to retire from Test cricket following the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, the great all-rounder will retire from T20Is and ODIs after playing in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025, respectively.

“As far as international career is concerned, what I see at this moment it is up to 2025 Champions Trophy that is the ODI format. The T20 format is up to 2024 World Cup and that’s it. As far as Test goes, may be sooner, maybe after the World Cup. May be I will retire from three formats at the same time and no one can tell about future but at this moment I have such an idea. As far as reality goes, I will lead till this World Cup and I won’t lead in ODIs after that,” Shakib-Al-Hasan said.
